Open Mic at the Belmont Club, Fall River, MA; Wednesday @7pm
Belmont Club, 34 Franklin St, Fall River, MA 7:00pm
Please bring your own instrument! I'm drawing away from the ready use of my personal guitar....it's costing me, replacing dead strings, and prematurely wearing my frets.
TX!
Every Wednesday night at the Belmont Club, 34 Franklin St, Fall River, MA, I will be performing and hosting a new Acoustic Open Mic Night, complimenting the Monday Night 'Blues Jam' [an institution of some 15 years running]
I pledge to be there, fail-not, every Wednesday: so if you're driving from Boston or Cape Cod or Providence or Nashville, you can be sure the event is on.
If you have any doubt, you can call me at 774-955-9637 PERSONALLY to confirm you will not travel in vain!
Here's the deal:
Singles to trios.
Acoustic, or direct-to-the-board electric/acoustic instruments.
Electric guitars with a small amp.....played in "Chet Atkins" sound are fine....
We're working to provide a professional quality sound for whatever you present. Some modest stage lighting to attempt to make you look good will be set up. We strongly urge that performers not use a book of words on a stand to grope through half-learned songs.....or you can arrive before 10:00pm and get your three. This is about clean, professional presentation: have it... get it...or, at least strive for that...or please don't ask to play. We're setting the bar higher, and hope that it causes hobby-performers to take their performances to a higher level .
This is not a jam session. No one will step on your presentation, un-invited; there is no 'house band' to make you sound 'better'... leaping into your thing.
Three tunes, or 15 minutes, roughly, please.
If you grip the crowd...or pull your own into the room, additional time is yours. The point of this open mic is to please the customers, and not, necessarily, to ensure equal time for all performers. We like to have everybody get a turn on the first rotation [before 10:00pm]; but we want to have the better performers, or those with people there to see them, take full sets after that.
We ask that any on-spot combinations of players and/or additional individual performances be organized. We want the Belmont's customers to have a pleasant musical experience, to stay awake and be entertained, and to stay... and spend money at the club...so we can all have a good time the next Wednesday! So be polished and workmanlike. That is, have your shit together, pretty please!
I'll do my best to ensure that you can hear yourself, and get a sound that you'll like.
We want to keep momentum of a good show going, sounding great, be entertaining and fun....and make money for the Belmont Club. We hope to keep the event attractive for skilled, professional, artistic performers, who may be coming from anywhere in New England...or farther, who want to present their music without distraction or needless waiting.
If you are more inclined to rock-out on "11" with a full band, see Paul Fata on Monday night at the Belmont Monday Jam!
This open mic is for players, writers, singers, and combinations thereof...at any level of development....who take their craft seriously, understand how to play well with others, please an audience, and/or who work hard to be their best.
And we want to attract and keep a regular, growing, audience that appreciates that kind of effort and professionalism.... Week after week.
Thanks for listening!
Jeff
